Dear colleagues, As you may already be aware, the Crafoord Prize for 2006 will be given to a scientist (possibly two or three) in the field of Geosciences. The Prize is awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (KVA). Previous laureates in geosciences are Edward N. Lorenz and Henry Stommel (1983), Claude J. Allègre and Gerald J. Wasserburg (1986), James Van Allen (1989), Adolf Seilacher (1992), Nicholas Shackleton and Willi Dansgaard (1995), Don L. Anderson and Adam M. Dziewonski (1998), and Dan P. Mckenzie (2002). Any individual may nominate candidates. Deadline for the nominations is April 30, and nominations must be sent by mail. A letter of invitation and a nomination form can be picked up at http://www.kva.se/temp/letter_crafoord_2006.pdf http://www.kva.se/temp/form_crafoord_2006.pdf More information about previous laureates, etc., can be found at http://www.kva.se/KVA_Root/eng/awards/international/crafoord/index.asp I would like to encourage you to submit a nomination. The more nominations the Academy receives, the more likely it is that we can identify a worthy laureate. Remember that palaeontology is also a geoscience!
