Re: paleonet storm shelly deposits

Title: Re: paleonet storm shelly deposits
Got to Niash & Kamp, 1997, Geol. Soc. America Bull. v. 109, p. 978-999 for a very good discussion of shell beds present in cyclic sedimentary units and discussion of different types of shell beds.

If you are convinced the deposit you are examining was generated by a single storm event, then other literature will be helpful. However, the shelly beds are probably composite and the result of multiple disturbances. Zuschin & Stanton, 2002, Palaios, v. 17, p. 602-613 present a very good study of a composite storm-generated shell bed that is relevant.

In the case of the local Eocene section here, the richest vert-bearing deposits are submarine channel fills that probably were produced during single large storms, but present in intervals with many storm layers that may or may not be separated.

Happy New Year to all paleonetters:

I am requesting some guidance in regard to a possible storm deposit with marine vert and invert material. The deposit consists of a 20-cm thick layer of sst with shells and abundant marine vertebrates, including sharks, fish and cetaceans. A Georef search hasn't provided references that I use to compare with. Could someone provide me with some references of studies done in possible sotrm beds with vert and invert material? Or can give a hint on what the layer I'm studying could be?
