>How about lightening up a bit? Professor Benjamini, Unfortunately the evangelical Christian tradition includes nothing analogous to the Talmudic tradition of debate and discussion about the details of religious writing. The fact that you have been invited to speak about fossils and evolution within the "religious educational system" in Israel may be due to this Jewish tradition of analysis. Yes? I am unaware of any speaker being invited to an American religious school to present evolution (unless it was to serve as a living straw man). Evangelical Christians are all about dogma and the dogma is derived from what they call a "literal interpretation" (oxymoron that) of Scripture. At this moment I happen to be listening a public radio program called "Fresh Air". The guest is Bart Ehrman, a former evangelical Christian who is religion scholar. His life of scholarship has caused him to reject the received belief that the Bible is the "word of God". Rather he has recognized the Bible for what it is: an accumulation of stories and dogma collected somewhat haphazardly and translated rather freely.
