The University of Kansas is pleased to offer the following position:

Distinguished Professor of Invertebrate Paleontology and Treatise
Editorship- THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS

     The Department of Geology at The University of Kansas seeks
applications for an academic year, tenured faculty position at the level
of distinguished professor to fill the position of Director of the
Paleontological Institute and editor of the Treatise on Invertebrate
Paleontology. The successful candidate will be a paleontologist who uses
fossil invertebrates or microfossils to study evolution, taxonomy,
paleobiology, or paleoecology and who has a well-established,
internationally recognized program involving teaching, research, and
service. The person should also have administrative and editorial
ability and experience. The successful candidate will be expected to:
edit the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology; establish and maintain
an externally funded post-doctoral or visiting scientist program;
fund-raise to support the Paleontological Institute; seek and obtain
external funding for their own program of research and actively publish
results of research; teach courses in the area of specialty at all
levels; and supervise graduate students.

August 18, 2006, or later. Review of completed applications will begin
February 1, 2006, and will continue until the position is filled.
Applicants must have the academic qualifications, including an earned
Ph.D., to meet the criteria appropriate for appointment as a
Distinguished Professor with tenure as defined by the University of

should submit with their letter of application a Curriculum Vitae,
statements outlining teaching and research interests, a long-term vision
for the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology, and the names and contact
information of at least three persons who can be contacted for letters
