This just in. ---------- University of South Florida Department of Geology is recruiting undergraduates in Geology and related disciplines for a Summer 2005 REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program exploring the Neogene Paleoenvironments of Florida. The program will run from approximately 20 May 15 July, 2005. Our REU program will emphasize the Pliocene-Pleistocene reconstruction of Floridašs coastal and marine environments using the rich fossil record throughout the state. In the 8-week program students will gain experience with field techniques, including basic stratigraphic description, ground-penetrating radar, GPS surveying and mapping, and field sampling for paleoenvironmental analysis. The lab portion of the program will emphasize paleontological and sedimentological analyses, amino acid geochronology, isotope analysis of paleoceanographic environments, interpretation of ground-penetrating radar imagery, and other techniques. Participation includes the opportunity to attend and present research findings at the Spring 2006 SE GSA meeting. Students will receive a stipend of $2400 plus travel and living expenses for the 8-week program. Please see our website for more information and on-line application, or contact: www.cas.usf.edu/esp/reu <http://www.cas.usf.edu/esp/reu> Deadline for applications is April 1.
