A number of bivalve species from the European Lower Carboniferous are still regarded as members of the genus Posidonia, for example P. becheri and P. corrugata. It is probable that other Carboniferous forms are still referred to the genus but I am not familiar with the Asian Carboniferous fauna. A mention of Siamese Carboniferous Posidionia siltstones appears (p. 96) in H. Muir-Wood ('Malayan Lower Carboniferous Fossils and their bearing on the Visean Palaeogeography of Asia' [British Museum (Natural History): London (1958)] but no details are given, and no members of the genus are descibed in her monograph. ************************************** john.hampton@glg.ed.ac.uk (University of Edinburgh) **************************************
