All, Although I have generally avoided becoming involved in the bird / dinosaur discussions over the years, I thought that some of you might be interested in a gentlemanly debate between Professor Benjamin F. Mudge and his former student, Samuel W. Williston. Mudge had written an article entitled "Are Birds Derived from Dinosaurs?" in 1879. Williston, then at Yale working for Marsh, saw the article and responded. Both articles are reproduced verbatim on a new Oceans of Kansas webpage (I did italicize some of the genus names): < http://www.oceansofkansas.com/Birds-Dinos.html > I thought the articles were fun to read. While paleontology has changed a lot over the years, some issues keep going on and on. Regards, Mike Everhart Sternberg Museum of Natural History Fort Hays State University www.oceansofkansas.com
