Rosalie F. Maddocks wrote, > A nomenclatural appendix [to 'Index Fossils of North America'] should be added to bring the names up to date, as many of the species are now classified in different genera. Some of the taxonomy hasn't aged well, so a revision would be even better. Perhaps The Paleontological Society could coordinate this. That would be a monumental task, and in the meantime the book would be unavailable. Better just to reissue it 'as is' and set up a PS website to post corrections. I'd be happy to update the trace fossil taxa. Abbott's 'American Seashells' is a similar case. A few years ago, the Conch-L (Conchologists of America) listserver posted long lists of updated taxonomic names supplied by list members. The response was very quick -- you could tell that several members had annotated their copies over a period of years. Cheers, Andrew K. Rindsberg Geological Survey of Alabama P.O.
