paleonet Archaeology 101

I thought you would be interested to know that "Stones, Bones, and Ancient
Cities: Great Discoveries in Archaeology and the Search for Human Origins,"
by Lawrence H. Robbins, Ph.D., has just been brought back into print by The
Blackburn Press.

An introductory text that captures the excitement of archaeological
discovery, the book covers four main areas: 1) Spectacular and important
finds (including Lucy, European cave art, the Tomb of Tutankhamen, Troy,
Pompeii, Machu Picchu, Stonehenge, Native American sites, the Rosetta Stone
and the Dead Sea Scrolls) and the way they were made. 2) The personalities
concerned with many of these discoveries. 3) The reaction to the finds and
their impact on both science and the public. 4) Changing interpretations
about the discoveries.

A new preface to this reprint of the 1990 edition discusses some of the new
finds that have appeared since this book was first published.

"A modern day Indiana Jones, archaeologist Robbins has compiled facts,
theories, and personal experience into ... a fascinating, highly readable,
and informative excursion into the richness of the past and the secrets it
holds." Booklist

The Blackburn Press is a relatively new publishing company, founded with the
mission of keeping in print and available for purchase at reasonable prices
book titles that larger publishers have lost interest in and have declared
to be "out of print." It specializes in scientific and technical books that
are classics in their field. (See www.blackburnpress.com).

The Blackburn Press is especially interested in reprinting niche textbooks
with modest adoptions. While it is not well-positioned to bring every
out-of-print book back into production, its editors are eager to hear from
authors and readers about out-of-print books that have value and should be
returned to print. Please contact Frances Reed, Publisher, at
freed@blackburnpress.com.
