Howdy, Paleonetters--I apologize if this is a duplicate, but this is important, as Leigh Van Valen and Rich Lane have already notified you. We need your help! K-12 education in Georgia is imperiled by Kathy Cox (GA's Secretary of State) and the Georgia Board of Education that proposes to delete Big Bang Theory, Plate Tectonics, and Evolution (and many other items like volcanoes and dinosaurs!) from our elementary and highschool curriculum--"negative" subjects that cause controversy deems Georgia Secretary of State Kathy Cox--(see Rich Lane's posting concerning evolution, where Kathy disses evolution). To add your input into educating Kathy Cox--you can sign a petititon (http://www.PetitionOnline.com/gasci04/petition.html) and you can also visit the proposed curriculum revisions and add your input (www.glc.k12.ga.us/spotlight/gps2.htm). Of course, you can also get online for the Atlanta Journal of Constitution (www.ajc.com) and write a letter to the editor. Lastly, send Kathy Cox, Georgia Department of Education, a flurry of Sympathy Cards for her contributions to the death of education as we know it in the state of Georgia. Thank you! Sally E. Walker, Geology Dept., University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602
