Good morning! Next week I've been asked to give a talk about fossils to my son's kindergarten class (4-5 year olds). Basically the idea is I go in, show a few fossils, get them interested and then have some follow up projects that the teacher can follow through. These usually involve lots of paint, plaster, in fact anything that makes alot of mess! One project I though of was how to make a plaster cast of a fossil. About 5 years ago whilst attempting a Masters in Palaeontology (which I didn't finish due to the births of my sons) I had a latex mould made up of a cephlapod which I've never used. My first question is do I just put Plaster of Paris into the mould, let it dry and then peel of the latex to reveal the finished product? Or is there some other substance that is better suited bearing in mind that kindergarten children will be trying to copy this? Secondly, are there any websites out in the ether regarding palaeontology aimed specifically at the kindergarten set? This gives the kiddies another avenue to quench their thirsts for knowledge. Now for the "left-field" question. Are there any members of Paleonet that also play Golden Oldies Rugby? If so could you please drop me a line off-line to say g'day! And finally, for the English members of the list that may be following the Rugby World Cup - Go the Wallabies!!
