The Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research announces a request for proposals for the year 2003 Joseph A. Cushman Awards for Student Research, including the William V. Sliter Research Award. These awards, each with a maximum amount of $1000, are to support research dealing with foraminifera or allied groups. The awards will partially support M.S. or Ph.D. research projects not currently funded through other grants. Travel to meetings or conferences is not supported by this award. Proposals will be judged upon scientific merit and financial need. Proposals should consist of a short (1-3 pages) summary of the student's research, a curriculum vitae, and a budget. Previous awardees should include a short summary of research completed with the award. Two supporting letters of reference should be provided separately to the address below. Decisions will be made by the Cushman Foundation Board of Directors by the end of November 2003, and funds will be available for 2004. Proposals should be submitted by September 15, 2003 and directed to Jennifer Jett, Cushman Foundation, MRC- 121 Department of Paleobiology, Smithsonian Institution, 10th & Constitution NW, Washington, DC 20560-0121, USA.
