Just a brief announcement that a set of new PaleoVision images have been placed on the PaleoBase web site. http://www.paleobase.com/gallery/gallery2.html These are images of mollusc fossils that are included (along with over 800 others) in the PaleoBase Part 2 database. Although PaleoBase is co-published by Blackwell and The Natural History Museum—one of which is a commercial outfit and the other of which is not—the new images are available for viewing and use irrespective of whether you're interested in the database. On a technical note, many of these images were created using the digital 'extended focus' technique that has been described and discussed several times on the list. Additional PalaeoVision images of microfossils, all of which were created with the extended focus technique, are available from the following NHM web page. http://www.nhm.ac.uk/palaeontology/palaeovision/pvgallery.html Not bad for critters that are 400 microns or less in length/diam. Enjoy.
