Dear colleagues, It's THAT time of year to start planning for the GSA Annual Meeting in Seatle, November 2-5, 2003. This is a brief call for abstracts to technical session T92, Advances in the Fossil Record of Insects and Other Terrestrial Arthropods. This is the third year for this session, which has received much attention from GSA, the Paleontological Society, and media. Interest and attendence are expected to grow further with new events planned for 2003, including our first invited speakers: * George O. Poinar, Courtesy Professor of Entomology at Oregon State University and author of "The Quest for Life in Amber," "Life in Amber," "The Amber Forest: Reconstruction of a Vanished World," and "Lebonese Amber: The Oldest Insect Ecosystem in Fossilized Resin." * Joseph T. Hannibal, Curator and Head of Invertebrate Paleontology, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and a leading-expert on fossil millipedes. * Conrad C. Labandeira, Curator of Fossil Arthropods, Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of Natural History, and a leading expert on plant-insect interactions. * S. Bruce Archibald, Ph. D. candidate, Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, Harvard University Museum of Comparative Zoology. Tentative talk title: A surprising new Eocene Mecoptera (Scorpionflies, Hangingflies) fauna from British Columbia, Canada and Washington State, USA. The abstract deadline in Tuesday, July 15.
