PhD Scholarship in Botany or Geology Victoria University of Wellington and the New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences seek a qualified and motivated PhD student to join our team researching the links between the alpine flora of New Zealand and the former Antarctic flora. The project will be based in Victoria University’s School of Biological Sciences and is supported by a scholarship funded from a Marsden Fund grant. It will be supervised by Professor Phil Garnock-Jones and Dr Ian Raine. The research involves molecular phylogenetics, historical biogeography, and pollen morphology. The successful candidate will have a good BSc(Hons) or MSc degree in botany, biology, or paleontology. Experience with genetics laboratory techniques is desirable. The scholarship will provide an annual stipend of $20,000, plus domestic university fees, and research expenses. Note that students from countries other than New Zealand, Germany, France, and Australia may be required to pay international fees, although fees waiver scholarships may be available to strong applicants.
