Hey fellow list members, I am preparing a small field guide for a trip to the well known (by others, not me) road cut at I-64 and Indiana Route 37. We are being lead there by one of our members who is in the geology department at Purdue. So far he has been able to provide me with pretty good stratigraphic information but there seems to be little on the paleontology. We know of several "faunal lists" that have been published (Horowitz, 1979; and Kelly, 1984) but have not been able to obtain copies of them. The exposure is in the Indian Springs Shale Member of the Big Clifty Formation (Middle Chesterian epoch; Late Mississippian Period). From what I can gather, this is a site known for blastoids and other echinoderms. I also understand there are several corals and some other invertebrates as well as scrappy vertebrate material to be found. So can anyone on this list provide me with a faunal list &/or description of the paleoenvironment? A list of published references would also be useful. Also any basic collecting tips for the site would be helpful. Thanks in advance, -- Erich Rose Field Guide Editor, New York Paleontological Society 410 Farragut Ave. Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 10706 (914) 478-7491
