Postdoc opportunity for a female researcher, Department of Geology, University of Oslo, Norway

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position (3.5 years) in petroleum related biostratigraphy. The position is part of a strategy to increase the proportion of female researchers at the University of Oslo and is thus open to women only.

The Department of Geology has petroleum- and environment related geology as prioritised research fields.

The palaeontology group at the department includes four permanent staff members, primarily working on microfossils - benthic foraminifera, dinoflagellate cysts and diatoms, from Mesozoic to Recent deposits. Applications of microfossils to sequence- and seismic stratigraphy are of particular relevance.

The successful candidate will be working on pre-Quaternary microfossil assemblages preferably from the North Sea or Arctic areas (e.g., Svalbard). Within these limits, the candidate is free to choose her own research project or join ongoing projects at the department, which e.g., includes mid to late Jurassic of Haltenbanken, off mid Norway and Palaeogene of the North Sea. The work will be performed in collaboration with the oil industry.

The candidate will be expected to spend up to 20% of her time on teaching or other relevant tasks.

Candidates with a geological background who can document scientific qualifications in microfossil based biostratigraphy, either from academia or industry, are welcome to apply. The candidates should either already hold a PhD or have submitted her thesis before the closing date.

For further information, contact Professor Elisabeth Alve; ealve@geologi.uio.no, phone: + 47 22 85 73 33.

The application, including curriculum vitae, copies of degree certificates and/or examination results, papers showing previously held positions, a statement of future research interests, a complete publication list, copies of scientific publications, and addresses and emails of three referees, should be sent to:
