Dear Paleonetters, watch out, here comes a second one, this time on rodents: PhD Position in Vertebrate Paleontology/Biology, University of Bonn, Germany A PhD position in Vertebrate Paleontology/Biology is available beginning January 1st, 2002, for research on the phylogeny of the arvicoline rodents. The position is for a maximum of three years (stipend of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, about DM 24,000 p.a.) and comes with a travel allowance to attend meetings and visit collections as well as a supplies budget. The position is part of a special Graduate College entitled "Biodiversity in time and space". The project is devoted to extant and fossil arvicoline rodents. Its aim is to compare the phylogentic pattern derived from morphological features and enamel microstructure with that derived from DNA data. The aim is to improve the understanding of the evolution and migration of this rodent group which is crucial for terrestrial stratigraphy of the Quaternary. Requirements include appropriate prior training, preferably in vertebrate paleontology, organismic biology, or molecular biology, as evidenced by a Masterīs degree, Diploma, or equivalent in one of these fields. The successful PhD applicant will be expected, in addition to her/his own research, to assist Graduate College staff in improving communication within the College, e.g., by helping to organize workshops and informal seminars. Applications should include CV; copies of degrees and/or college course transcripts; names, mail and e-mail addresses of all recent former advisers; list of publications and a short (one paragraph) statement of research/career interests. All applications are to be sent to: Prof. Dr. Wighart v.
