paleonet On-line collection at the Natural History Museum, London

The Former Aberystwyth Collection

The M.Sc., Ph.D. and research micropalaeontological collections of Prof
Robin Whatley, Prof John Haynes and their students were previously housed
at Aberystwyth University, University College of Wales, UK.

We are pleased to announce that the collection has now been transferred to
the Natural History Museum, London and a catalogue is now available on the
Natural History Museum's website at:

http://flood.nhm.ac.uk/cgi-bin/earth/abermicro/

Searches of the database can be made by requesting one or more of the
following criteria: surname, year, fossil type, company collector (eg BP,
Shell), country/sea/ocean, or Geological Period. The database can also be
browsed by the first letter of a surname or by Geological Time based on any
unit given in the Gradstein and Ogg timescale.

Slides, residues, log books and theses associated with this vast research
collection are available for loan or for consultation at the NHM. If you
have any further enquiries about the collection then please contact me at
the address below.

Regards,

Giles Miller

NB: There will be a phased, temporary closure of the NHM Palaeontology
Building from 2002 to 2004 while a major refurbishment project is carried
out. Though no timetable has been formally approved yet, early indications
are that the micropalaeontology collections will be unavailable for
approximately 6 months during summer 2002. For more information see the
Palaeontology Departmentís website,
