ucmp1 is free, since we run it; the other servers belong to other people.
We cannot just order them or anyone else to do our service work. As soon
as they change OS's, they may well run into problems too. We'll fix ours
ASAP. We are working on it, but this one is not easy.

I suspect that as long as we run electronically, glitches will happen. We
all need to be patient, as none of our lists are run by money-making
concerns; you get it free and you will get some problems as the only cost
to you. (But look at all the AOL problems so no one is trouble free).
The complaints merely distract rather than help, since everyone involved
with PaleoNet or ucmp1 has another full time job. We want to know about
problems, of course; and we get to them as soon as we can. Most are easy.
This one has been more trouble for several reasons, as Norm pointed out.
Hiring someone to do PaleoNet would cost more than $20/year/subscriber
plus online connections and server maintenance costs. Or we could go
commercial, and see what that would cost. The service would probably not
improve either, since a commercial outfit knows nothing of paleo or events
happening within the field that might require timely fixes, and they will
have their troubles too.

We are more sorry than anyone that it is so frustrating.
