The "Climb From Slime"  is to catch their interest (the other possibility was
"From Pond Scum to You").  The book is not going to be scale of nature in
approach; the "tree-of-life" is our recurrent metaphor.  Nevertheless,
whether you want to use the word "progress" or not, isn't the sequence
procaryote-eucaryote-multicellular directional?  -Roy
