------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UNIVERSITY OF PLYMOUTH DEPARTMENTS OF GEOGRAPHICAL AND GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Micropalaeontology of saltmarsh sediments: testing new methodologies for high-precision sea-level records Rates of sea-level change in the North Atlantic are currently more rapid than they have been for the past 5000 years. There is much debate over whether and to what degree this is the result of global warming. In addition, although ocean dynamics are an important component of the global climate system, the relationship with regional climate and sea level is poorly understood. An important element in resolving these issues is the establishment of high resolution sea-level records. This project aims to combine various micropalaeontological techniques to develop a new approach to high-precision reconstruction of sea-level change. This is a 12 month appointment starting between 16 Sept and 31 Dec 1996. You must have experience in Quaternary micropalaeontology with expertise in one of the following microfossil groups: foraminifera, pollen, testate amoebae. Knowledge of Holocene sea-level change, field sampling and survey techniques is preferred. You must have completed a PhD in a relevant field. Salary will be on the University Research Fellow Scale (stlg13,834-18,196 pa) depending on experience and qualifications. Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Roland Gehrels (01752-233079, Email, WRGehrels@Plymouth.AC.UK) or Prof Malcolm Hart (01752-232156, MHart@Plymouth.AC.UK) Closing date: 23 August 1996 Send cv with the names and addresses of two referees to Science Faculty Office, University of Plymouth, Plymouth, PL4 8AA, UK. ***************************** Dr W Roland Gehrels Dept of Geographical Sciences Univ of Plymouth Plymouth PL4 8AA United Kingdom tel (44) (0)1752-233079 (direct line) or 233053 (dept office) fax (44) (0)1752-233054 email wrgehrels@plymouth.ac.uk ******************************** ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Norman MacLeod Micropalaeontological Research N.MacLeod@nhm.ac.uk (Internet) N.MacLeod@uk.ac.nhm (Janet) Address: Dept. of Palaeontology, The Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London, SW7 5BD Office Phone: 0171-938-9006 Dept.
