Second International Trilobite Conference

Second International Trilobite Conference
August 22nd-25th, 1997
First Circular

Four days of technical sessions will be held at Brock University, St.
Catharines, Ont., Canada, and will include a special session/workshop on
phylogenetic systematics and high level classification of trilobites. We
invite papers on all aspects of trilobite research: systematics,
biostratigraphy, paleoecology and evolution. If there is sufficient
interest, we hope to produce a proceedings volume along the lines of the
volume generated from the 1973 meeting in Oslo (Fossil and Strata v. 4).

Registration for the conference is expected to be approximately $180.00
(All costs are in Canadian dollars; current exchange rate: 1
CAN$=0.75US$). Residence accomidations will be available and is likely to
be around $40.00 per night (single occupancy). Located near the U.S.
border in southern Ontario, St. Catharines is readly accessible by air
via Toronto or Buffalo.

Three field trips are offered as part of the conference. Pre-meeting
trips will deal with the Cambrian sequence of the Canadian Rockies
(Leaders: Brian Chatterton and Brian Pratt) and the Cambrian of Maritime
Canada (Leaders: Ed Landing and Steve Westrop). Rockies trip will begin
at Edmonton, Alberta, on August 15th, with an estimated cost (excluding
air travel and food) of $700.00. The trip to Maritime Canada will double
as the Third Field Conference of the Lower Cambrian Stage Subdivision
Working Group. Participants will travel to Saint John, New Brunswick, on
August 12th and the trip will end in St. John's Newfoundland, on August
29th. The cost including air travel from St. John to St. John's and back
to Toronto but excluding food, is estimated at $1700. A post-meeting trip
(August 26th-29th) led by Kevin Brett and David Rudkin will examine the
Ordovician and Silurian sequence of southern Ontario. Estimated cost is
$400.00 (excluding food).

The final circular, including details of the format for abstracts, will
be sent at the end of 1996 to those who return the following form or
