NBC's Mysterious Origins Show

I found the NBC show on the mysterious origins of man just as shocking as
Jere did. The portrayal of this inuendo to the general public as science
was a great disservice. It hearkens back to such loser series as "Chariots
of the Gods" and Leonard Nemoy's "In Search Of".

I could only beea watching it for about 20 minutes but as an example of the
science presented in this program:

In 1966 Virginia Steen-McIntyre, formerly of the USGS, dated some tools
from a site somewhere in Mexico using two radiomateric methods (as she
states) 1. using little uranium atoms, and 2. zircons (Last I heard these
were part of the same method). She then got a date of 250,000 years dating
the tools (She dated the crystalization age of the rock making up the tool.
In addition, if my memory is correct on this Uranium-Lead was the only
method available at that time and that has a minimum dating capability of
1,000,000 years BP. Uranium-Thorium methodologies that could have dated
the tools only came into general use in the 1970's). No wonder that she
had no future career at the USGS.

Another great example was the famous human and dinosaur trails at Glen Rose
Texas. I thought that this one had been laid to rest years ago when
erosion showed that the human tracks were turning into three toe dinosaur
tracks. For a good video illustrating this check out NOVA: God, Darwin,
and Dinosaurs (1989). Enven H. Morris(on?) of the Institute of Creation
Research in San Diego recanted on that one.

They also produced a piece of limestone from Glen Rose carved in the shape
of a finger, and stated that this was a fossilized human finger (the best
example of lagerstatten I have ever seen). Also proof that humans and
dinosaurs coexisted. Some M.D. (Mountain Doctor?) cat scanned it and
clearly showed that it contained a fuzzy core that was obviously a human
bone. Give me a break!

For Garry Jones (and anyone else) here is a summary that I received from a
Creationists School Teacher somewhere in British Columbia. I have been on
this guys mailing list ever since I on a Discovery Channel show a few weeks
ago. I used to make fun of all the creationists bumpkins in the southern
US, but they're here too (Arrrgghh!).

"The Mysterious Origins of Man"

Charlton Heston hosts this one-hour special that reveals new information
about prehistoric man. Evidence is presented suggesting that man made the
climb from Stone Age to civilization more than once, and that present-day
man is just the latest in this cycle. The program will include scientific
theories and evidence concerning the origin of man on this planet.

Other questions posed:

Did man live with the dinosaurs?
Did intelligent man walk on this planet hundreds of millions years ago?
Is Darwin's Theory of Evolution correct?

After several years of research and investigation, the production team,
headed by Robert Watts ("Star Wars" trilogy, "Indiana Jones" trilogy),
reveals
startling new evidence to suggest that our long-held views on pre-history may be
incorrect. State-of-the-art computer graphics illustrate the various
scientific theories and evidence presented. Michael H. Gerber (Emmy winner
"The Mystery of the Sphinx") and Watts are the executive producers. John
Cheshire, Bill and Carol Cote ("The Mystery of the Sphinx") are the
producers. Bill Cote directed from a script he wrote with Cheshire.
