SENIOR MUSEUM PREPARATOR The University of California Museum of Paleontology has an open position for a career 75%-time Senior Museum Preparator. The position requires preparation of fossil specimens (mostly vertebrate) for teaching, research and exhibits using chemical and mechanical methods, including a variety of hand tools, and electric and pneumatic equipment. Other duties will include the molding and casting of fossils using plaster, polyurethane, figerglass, latex and silastric compounds; packaging fossils for shipment; assisting the staff, faculty curators and volunteers in fossil preparation and use of laboratory equipment and supplies. The position also requires participation in aspects of the Museum's public outreach program and field trips. This position will be supervised by the Museum's Principal Museum Scientist. Qualifications should include preparatory experience with fossil animals and plants, familiarity with paleontological collections and record keeping on electronic databases, and knowledge and experience with the safe operation of fossil preparation laboratory equipment. Background in geology, paleontology or zoology required. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply for this position.
