There has been quite a bit of speculation  on this score; I remember seeing
a GSA section meeting talk about this some time back.  A discussion of
historical changes of earth's orbital elements can be found in
Schwarzacher, W. 1993. Cyclostratigraphy and the Milnakovitch Theory.
