Professor Gale

I am very pleased to be able to pass on the following heartening news
(although it may surprise cynics and dismay brown-noses).

Dr A.S. Gale (currently of the Natural History Museum and Imperial College
London) has been appointed to a new research professorship in the Geology
Department of the University of Greenwich. The reduced teaching (and
increased salary) this entails should enable him to indulge still further
his favourite pastimes (Cretaceous research, cooking, drinking, etc.).
Greenwich already has three fine palaeontologists on its staff (Drs Horne,
Doyle and Lowry) so we can derive further comfort from the evidence that
the subject is not undervalued everywhere.
