Neale, The reference is a self-published book entitled "Period of the Far Eastern Minicreatures." Citation: The Original Report of the Okamura Fossil Laboratory, no. 14, July, 1980. It is about 350 pages long. The author studied metamorphosed Silurian carbonates and recognized not only tetrapods, but also birds, dragons, plants, lots of other things that I cannot immediately recall, and, most interesting, several races of "minimen" (and "protominimen") that are approximately 2mm high! The author suggests that a civilization of small minicreatures inhabited the earth prior to its present state, or something along those lines. It is written in both nontechnical Japanese and English and is profusely illustrated with photographs and line drawings. It is one of the most bizarre pieces of paleontological literature floating around out there. I have in my office a framed Text-Figure 7 from this paper in which the author illustrates that "the grades of evolution of protominiman correspond always with the metamorphosis of embryo of Recent mankind." It is that strange - a must read but zero on the science. Mr. Okamura has also published several shorter papers (Japanese and English) and another paperback book (in Japanese only). These publications are difficult to obtain at the present time, according to several colleagues who have written to Mr. Okamura in recent years, all without success. Dave Goodman Arco Alaska, Inc.
