Calendar distribution mechanism

I too like the file distribution mechanism of LISTSERV, but it
has the logistical problem of involving yet another subscription
list, which someone has to maintain. Specifically, someone has
to delete bad addresses, if nothing else (and there usually are
other necessary tasks). I agree that posting the whole thing to
a mailing list or newsgroup intended for some other (related)
purpose is not ideal.

How about this compromise: post a periodic update (just new,
upcoming items) to various forums, and ensure that the whole
calendar is kept up to date on an archive somewhere. Perhaps
on the nhm.ac.uk archive, since Norm MacLeod has more or less
made the offer already?

The update (or at least a reminder of the availability of new
items) really should appear in sci.bio.paleontology as well as
sci.geo.geology. I hope that Larry gets access to that group
soon. In the meantime, I have posted a note there directing
readers to look for his calendar in sci.geo.geology.

Regards,
