Paleontology Calendar Comments on the Net during the past few months have shown a clear need for a central calendar of events in paleontology. What qualifies for inclusion in this calendar? My belief is that if the event is associated with fossils in any way and can be assigned a date, then it is a suitable candidate for this calendar. In this first edition of the calendar, I have included expositions, museum exhibit openings, meetings, digs, shows, committee meetings, technical symposia, and even one parade. This eclectic mixture will probably aggravate a lot of people; however, I hope that future editions will have even more variety, including calls for papers and deadlines. This first edition has events from February 1995 through June 1995 that were left in because the information was available and easily included. I realize that these events have passed; however, they should be of interest to some people who see this list (guidebooks are still available, etc.). This first edition is long (several hundred lines). Succeeding lists will be even longer. Every entry is complete. When commercial operators run the same trip repeatedly, there is a lot of repetition throughout the list; however, repeating these entries makes the compilation of the list easier on me. Many of the entries have limited details about the event. If you want more detail, let me know and I'll include it in future lists, but the length of the calendar will increase substantially. As you use the calendar, exercise caution. Meeting dates change, content changes, events are canceled, and there are often unforeseen expenses. Assume that participation in an event is not without cost unless I explicitly state that the event is free. Also assume that full participation in most association and society events requires membership in those organizations. Please realize that this calendar is my best effort, but I cannot and should not be held responsible for changes I don't know about. If you spot an error, please let me know immediately, and I'll post a correction immediately. Suggestions for improvement are always welcome. Please contact me directly.
