For an example in the microfossil line, look at Elphidium crispum (linne) which aparently gave rise to a giant form (species?) in the Pleistocene of the north eastern Pacific. Check 1944 issue of Journal of Paleontology (I think that the author was Nicol), and look for Elphidium barbarense (for Santa Barbara, CA, USA). I have also found this species in the Pliocene-Pleistocene San Diego Formation deposits on Mount Soledad (ask in the SDSU Geology Department Allison Library for a copy of Gunther's B.S. Thesis). Fred
