One final clarification of my position on the subject for now. I appreciate the value of big picture regional studies, cluster analysis, graphic correlation etc. But some of the geoscientists I deal with seem to think that all paleo determinations involve long laborious see you in a month type processes. This is not good. If we loose the ability to do zip bam fly the samples in (or the paleontologist out) at midnight "Help I'm lost in the section, this doesn't show up on my seismic" type work. none of the fancy bells and whistles are going to help us. We have to be able to wave examples of "see I saved you six jillion dollars on this well" in front of managment in order to still be here to do all that other fun stuff. If we even give the impression that all we can do is help in the long run. We are going to be extinct. Modern industry really doesn't seem to have any sentiment for anything beyond this quarter.
