Norm MacLeod -------------------------- There are two interesting developments on the Internet of which I thought you might like to be aware. The first is the Tree of Life Project, which is a phylogenetic navigator being started at U. Arizona by Wayne Maddison and David Maddison. The basic idea is that their core site will link up to other sites allowing people to browse through a phylogenetic tree of all life down to any level. To see the beginning of this process, log onto our home page of the Web, look under "Links to other earth & life science information sources" and click on "The tree of life: a phylogenetic navigator for the internet". They are appealing for links with other sites holding information and collections, particularly for those who will host phylogenies of particular groups. The other resource that has become available is the `visible man' project, where x-rays, MRI, and physical sections of the whole of a single individual are available as an anatomical reference. The site is http://www.nlm.nih.gov from where you select "Research and Development Activities" and then "Visible Human Project". ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Norman MacLeod Senior Research Fellow N.MacLeod@nhm.ac.uk (Internet) N.MacLeod@uk.ac.nhm (Janet) Address: Dept. of Palaeontology, The Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London, SW7 5BD Office Phone: 071-938-9006 Dept.
