K/T



I have always assumed that the K for Cretaceous was simply invented one 
day by a map maker in the same way he put a slash through the C of 
Cambrian to avoid confusion with the Carboniferous or a double stem on the 
P of Pennsylvanian to have a symbol other than that used for Permian.
