Once the digest facility is added, it will be a separate list, so
you could in fact subscribe to both PaleoNet and PaleoNet-digest
thereby getting mailings and digests.  This would allow you
to work in the following way : 

1. scanning subjects for "interesting" items to read/reply to,
junking the rest and catching up on them in the digest.

2. junking all mailing when you're too busy to read them
(especially useful are mailers such as ECSmail which allow you
to sort incoming mail into folders).

3. read printed off digests on the train to/from work.

4. pass digests to people not on the list.

The software we use is Majordomo.
