My interest in palaeontology started around the age of seven when accompanying my family on fossil-hunting trips and my passion for drawing helped me bring the fossils to life. Since childhood I have been fascinated by prehistoric life; both its morphology and lifestyle. I have always wanted to pursue a career in palaeontology and my interest in the subject has never waned.
Through many years of perfecting my illustration techniques, I have undertaken paleontological reconstructions for various institutes. In 2006, I was commissioned by the Royal Ontario Museum to illustrate a recently found brachiopod from the Burgess Shale. This was published in a paleontological journal. In addition to private commissions, in 2006 I had an exhibition illustrating the creatures of the Burgess Shale at the Elgin Museum in Scotland. Illustrations of various Elgin fossils were exhibited at them museum throughout a geology conference weekend of Sept 22-23, 2007.
My other main interests are fossil preparation and conservation. Between 2006 and 2007 I was lucky enough to get some experience in fossil preparation at both The Natural History Museum in London and the Sedgwick Museum in Cambridge.
It was my passion for paleontological sciences that led me to pursue degree in Geology at Aberdeen University. In 2007, I graduated with a BSc with Honours in Geology and Petroleum Geology. For the past year I have been employed as a Geologist, at an oil service company specialising in formation damage. I am currently enrolled in a Masters Degree programme in Palaeobiology at Bristol University. This will bring me one step closer to my ultimate dream of becoming a palaeontologist.
